Amrit Yoga Classes at Jess Ranch
Beginning in January 2012 I will be teaching yoga classes at the recreation center for the Jess Ranch community. It will be a gentle yoga class based on the Amrit Yoga style. What makes Amrit Yoga unique is the two-part postures. The pose and than the repose - the active and the passive. In the active part, you are performing the posture. In the passive you are resting and developing an inner focus.
Through the practice of yoga you can strengthen your body, gain flexibility and discover a deep sense of calm. In our fast paced world today, many yoga classes have been turned into "exercise". Amrit Yoga is so much more - it is meditation is motion, with an inner focus that is healing to the whole person. There will be yoga postures (asanas) and breath work (pranayama).
The yoga classes at Jess Ranch are free to any resident of the community. (The class is not open to the public.)
Classes are held at the recreation center (clubhouse).
Monday 9:00-10:00 am
Thursday 9:00 - 10:30 am
Bring a yoga mat, a throw (small blanket) and a pillow to sit on (if you choose). Please prepare to be in silence when you enter the class, we are creating a sacred space for our yoga practice. Anyone who feels they cannot sit on the floor can use a chair. Everyone will practice at their own level of comfort. This is a gentle yoga class.
About Me

In 2001, in Akron, Ohio I attended my first Amrit yoga class. The class was taught by a Catholic Priest named Father Rick. He was trained by Yogi Amrit Desai, the world class yoga master who developed Amrit Yoga. At that first class I knew that I was experiencing something that would change my life. I had done yoga before, but nothing like this. During that class I felt a connection with my body that I had never felt before. Most of my life I had lived from my head, disconnected from my body. When I began practicing Amrit Yoga I began to have a shift from my head to my body, a union of body, mind and soul. It was a true awakening. Soon after starting my yoga practice I was fortunate enough to meet Amrit Desai (known to his students as Gurudev) and became a student of his teachings. Over the years I have attended several retreats and trainings taught by Gurudev. His teachings have affected my life profoundly and his yoga is a true gift. Now I would like to share that in my new community.

About Amrit Yoga
Amrit Yoga, described as 'meditation in motion', is a deeply meditative style of Hatha Yoga founded by Yogi Amrit Desai ("Gurudev Shri Amritji") based on the teachings of his Guru, Swami Kripalvananda ("Swami Kripalu", "Bapuji"). Amrit Yoga combines the physical practices of Hatha yoga (asanas and pranayama) with the mental and spiritual practices of Raja yoga. Asanas are always practiced gently and the proper use of breath is considered important. A unique feature of Amrit Yoga is that each asana has two equally important parts: the active 'Pose' and the restful 'Repose'.
